Privacy Policy
Last updated: 6 July 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information TechShepherd (“we”, “us”) collects, how we use it, and the rights you have over it. We aim to collect as little as possible and to be transparent about the rest.
1. Who we are
TechShepherd is a software discovery website that helps people find and learn about useful software. For the purposes of the UK GDPR and EU GDPR, TechShepherd is the “data controller” for personal data processed through this site. You can contact us at privacy@techshepherd.software.
2. Information we collect
- Account information — if you create an account, your name, email address, and a securely hashed password.
- Newsletter email — if you subscribe, your email address and the date you subscribed.
- Usage data — pages viewed, general location (country), device and browser type, collected via privacy-respecting analytics.
- Cookies — small files used to keep you signed in and remember preferences (see our Cookie Policy).
3. How we use your information
- To provide and maintain your account and saved/favourite software.
- To send you the newsletter you subscribed to (you can unsubscribe at any time).
- To understand how the site is used so we can improve it.
- To keep the site secure and prevent abuse.
4. Legal bases for processing (GDPR)
We process your data under the following legal bases: consent (e.g. newsletter sign-up and non-essential cookies), contract (to provide your account), and our legitimate interests (to keep the site secure and improve it).
5. Analytics
We use analytics to measure aggregate traffic and improve the site. Where analytics use non-essential cookies or process personal data, we rely on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
6. Affiliate links
Some links to software are affiliate links. If you click one and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate partners may set their own cookies once you leave our site; those are governed by the partner’s privacy policy, not ours.
7. Sharing your information
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers who help us run the site (for example, email delivery and hosting), under contracts that require them to protect it.
8. Data retention
We keep account data for as long as your account is active. Newsletter data is kept until you unsubscribe. You can ask us to delete your data at any time and we will do so unless we are legally required to keep it.
9. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. To exercise any of these, email privacy@techshepherd.software. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority (in the UK, the ICO).
10. Children
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “last updated” date above shows the latest revision.
